Using WS-FTP

Connecting

After launching WS-FTP, a login window will be displayed:

  1. Enter the name system that you wish to connect to in the 'Host:' field.

  2. Enter your user id and password for that system in the appropriate fields.

  3. You may optionally enter the name of the directory within your account you wish to transfer files from/to by going to the Startup tab and putting the path in the 'initial remote host'.

  4. Click the 'OK' button; if your connection was made successfully a connection window will be displayed.



Changing Directories

WS-FTP displays directories in your account as folders. The current directory is displayed as 'Local System' above the file list. To change which directory you wish to transfer files, you may



Downloading Files

  1. Select a file type from the radio buttons at the bottom of the connection window. If the file contents are text, such as a saved e-mail or web page, select 'ASCII'; if you know it is not text-based, select 'Binary'; if you're unsure, check 'Automatic' and WS-FTP will attempt to determine the type for you.

  2. Double-click the file name in the file list or select the file and click the 'arrow' pointing left. You can get more than one file at a time by holding the control key and clicking on each file you wish to download. Make sure you are in the directory you want to use when you download.


Uploading Files

  1. Select a file type from the radio buttons at the bottom of the connection window. If the contents are text, such as a web page, select 'ASCII'; if you know it is not text-based, like a gif or jpeg, select 'Binary'; if you're not sure, check 'Automatic' and WS-FTP will attempt to determine the type for you.

  2. Click on the file name listed on the Local system and click the 'arrow' pointing right. You can get more than one file at a time by control key and clicking the files you want to upload.
